چکیده
Examining temporal changes in the growth and generation time of fish species can be valuable for understanding population responses to different management measures environmental conditions. Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) is an ecologically commercially important pelagic forage that occupies southern Gulf St. Lawrence. Here, we developed von Bertalanffy curves estimated yearly values NAFO Division 4TVn years from 1988 2021. The results indicate a reduction both spring fall spawning herring. Over series, spawners reduced by approximately 1 2 years, respectively. Furthermore, average across series (6.23 (95% CI: 5.78–6.85 years)) was year lower than (7.52 (6.82–8.34 years)). Overall, findings this study used better inform stock assessments rebuilding plans highlight importance examining trends more effective stocks.

Genetically different Atlantic herring Clupea harengus spawning waves
Putative spawning waves of Atlantic herring Clupea harengus were collected from 4 locations and genetically compared using 9 microsatellite loci. Shelf-scale (100s km) spatial differences were measured (max FST = 0.01, p < 0.001) and 1 sub-annual temporal difference (FST = 0.0058, p = 0.001) was revealed between spawning fish (predominantly comprising the same year-class) collected, 6 d apart, ...

Gillnet sampling and analyses of otolith shape, vertebral count and growth indicated the presence of three putative Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus L.) populations mixing together over the spawning season February-June inside and outside an inland brackish water lake (Landvikvannet) in southern Norway. Peak spawning of oceanic Norwegian spring spawners and coastal Skagerrak spring spawners oc...
متن کاملMaturity changes in Norwegian spring-spawning herring Clupea harengus: compensatory or evolutionary responses?
The stock of Norwegian spring-spawning herring Clupea harengus collapsed to a state of commercial extinction in the 1960s, probably due to both overexploitation and unfavourable climatic conditions. Since the 1980s, the stock has fully recovered. Following the collapse, the fish matured at much earlier ages and somewhat larger sizes than previously. Currently, age and size at 50% maturity have ...
متن کاملFourteen new microsatellite markers for Atlantic herring Clupea harengus.
Fourteen new microsatellite loci were developed and tested on Atlantic herring Clupea harengus with 39 individuals from Iceland and 49 individuals from Norway. The microsatellites, which contain di, tri and tetranucleotide repeats, are polymorphic (7-30 alleles), with observed heterozygosity ranging between 0·69 and 1·00 and expected heterozygosity between 0·55 and 0·97.
متن کاملStock–environment recruitment models for Norwegian spring spawning herring (Clupea harengus)
Different stock–environment recruitment models for Norwegian spring spawning herring (Clupea harengus) are fitted to a time series of spawning stock, recruitment, and temperature data extending back to 1907. In addition to the traditional temperature index from the Barents Sea (the average annual temperature in the Kola transect), we also developed a new index based on the temperature in the la...
